A Conversation With David Valencia

vision magazine

One of the reasons I love dk hair is the people that work there. They are all amazing. I enjoy my conversations with co-owner David Valencia. He is a very talented and thoughtful man. He is always reading a new book or thinking about a new way of running his business or just living in the world. Recently I e-mailed him a few questions. These are his answers.
Vision Magazine: What, in your opinion, is modern hair?
David Valencia: These days, most people wear many hats, or should I say, many hairstyles. Versatility is the key, especially for women. Guys can wear their hair very short or shaved.

VM: How do you think our hairstyles define us as a culture?
DV: I think we take good care of our hair. In part, because we can afford it.

VM: Why is hair so important?
DV: Because we wear it 24/7 to every single function that we attend and with every outfit we wear.

VM: Moving into the New Year, what is on the horizon for dk hair?
DV: I see growth in our future and I hope to expand our team with new talent/like-minded people. I would also like strengthen our “lifestyle resource” part of our mission statement, by making people aware that we offer skin care services as well as hair.

VM: What is the most important sentiment in living in our modern world?
DV: Transparency. Things cannot be kept hidden anymore. You can see what’s going on in the stock market in Japan as it is happening, or watch the sun rise on the east coast in San Diego. Knowledge is very powerful!

VM: As a father, how do you contribute to a positive interaction with your children in our modern world?
DV: Keep working on myself. As a friend once said, “Keep my side of the street clean.” To stay healthy and have goals, keep positive, to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

VM: If you had one hope for the world, what would it be?
DV: Respect and harmony.
