Save Palomar Lodge

by Sydney L. Murray

Have you ever loved a place so much that you would do anything in your power to save it? That is what Brian “Krash” Covington is doing to save the Palomar Mountain Lodge from closing down. He is a fixture on this mountain top who is willing to help those in need. Now he needs some help.
This place is a marvel. Built in the 1920s, Palomar Lodge was made from the giant incense cedar trees and granite rock found at the top of Palomar Mountain.
It is an historic treasure and an absolutely amazing place to build community. You drive an hour and a half from Los Angeles, San Diego or Palm Springs to arrive amidst the trees, blue skies, or at this time of year, a white winter wonderland with a few feet of snow to play in.
Whether you and a group of friends want to enjoy the many hiking trails on Palomar, or you are with a group of people gathering for a seminar or team-building weekend, this is the place for you.
There is enough room for seminars, music fests or poetry readings. I have heard guitar music float over the grand room with the fire burning and the lights glowing. I have sat on the front porch and been blown away by views of the ocean on a clear day. I have heard poetry being read in the clear morning light.
Neighbors drop by to say hello and visitors ask for directions. The lodge is the heart of the mountain. Even Albert Einstein is rumored to have slept there during the opening days of the historic Palomar Observatory.
I have a special bond with Palomar Mountain, as I have maintained a small cabin there with my husband and a friend for the last five years. This is a sacred place to me. When the moon is full, the light is as bright as daylight. I love this sanctuary where nature rules. The cares and strains of city life melt away as I am surrounded by the majestic trees and boulders of Palomar Mountain.
The rooms are cozy at this rustic hotel set amongst the trees of Palomar. They have ten rooms with new posturpedic mattresses, Egyptian, hypoallergenic cotton sheets, down pillows, wool carpets, heavy-duty heaters and ceiling fans. WiFi is also available for writers, those that want to stay in touch, or business people.
Bryan “Krash” Covington has asked for a Citizens Bailout: “I am asking the people to bail me out. I promise to always keep the food good and healthy and the rooms affordable. One dollar per person!
“My sense and definition of ‘Community’ is that we are responsible for each other and to each other. I believe in returning the planet back into a wild garden. Restoration earth. When was the last time you checked in on a neighbor that you didn’t like or have something to gain from? Who are we anyway? A soft knock on a door can break hard times for all involved,” said Krash Covington with emphasis.
Covington needs help from any of you that have been to this historic lodge or any that may want to go. Call Krash and see what needs to be done. The biggest boon right now would be having visitors and the rates are reasonable. Or make a donation to save the historic Palomar Lodge, a special place committed to nature and community.
