Go Green, Conscious Living Holiday Gifts
The winter holiday season can be pretty hectic and may not leave much time to shop for presents. We generally rush around at the last minute trying to get that extra special gift, zipping through traffic, likely being held up by hordes of shoppers doing exactly the same thing. Wading through the crowds while holding onto big bags stuffed with goodies is the picture that flows through my mind this time of year.
This year can be different for you. The Conscious Holiday Gift Show presents an alternative to the traditional holiday shopping experience of rushing from one store to the next. Offered by the people who bring you the annual Conscious Life Expo each February, The Conscious Holiday Gift Show is an eco-friendly one-stop shopping experience. At this free event, you’ll find mind, body and spirit enhancing gifts for the holidays, while celebrating your health and contributing to a friendly environment.
In this erratic economy, it is reassuring to know that the money you spend on your holiday gifts will be going to sustainable living products, independent vendors and small business owners who are giving back to the planet.
At this year’s event, you’ll find holistic holiday gifts including organic cotton clothing, green household items, music, books, art, fairly traded holiday baskets, and yoga/fitness products. Local artisans will be selling precious and semi-precious jewelry and tons of handmade items. You will even find an array of earth-friendly gifts for under $25.
There will also be a silent auction for various gift baskets with all proceeds benefiting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, one of America’s premier hospital facilities for pediatric research.
Get your holiday gifts at The Conscious Holiday Gift Show on Dec. 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at The LAX Hilton Hotel, 5711 W. Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA (2 blocks from LAX airport) For more information about this free event, call 800.367.5777, visit www.consciouslifeexpo.com or email contact@consciouslifeexpo.com.
Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival
Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival is Southern California’s largest ethnic dance festival showcasing the rich cultural heritage and diversity of the region. This cross-cultural collaboration presents five performances Nov. 21-23, bringing together over 200 extraordinary dancers representing cultures from around the globe. The areas of the world represented this year are Africa, Argentina, Bali, China, Cuba, East India, Japan, Mexico, Middle East, Native America, Philippines, Polynesia, Puerto Rico, and Spain. Participating dance troupes and musicians include Akayaa and Bolga Zohdoomah, Danyavaad and the Shimmy Sisters, Capoeira Mandinga, Tango Alma, Moonlight Chinese Association, Omo Ache, Shoba Sharma, and Sahar Dance Company, to name just a few.
This program is an amazing collaboration of the dance, educational, and ethnic organizations from the region. Over 15 ethnic dance companies from Southern California are represented, and the entire dance community has banded together to promote this event. A special Friday morning program combining workshops and performances will draw students from all over San Diego County. African drummers will welcome patrons Friday and Saturday evening, and visual artists will add their talents to the exotic flavor of the scene.
“Audiences will take an unforgettable journey around the world and at the same time, witness a spectacular reflection of the diversity in Southern California’s dance community,” says Betzi Roe, Coronado School of the Arts Director of Dance and Director of the Nations Festival. “Nations has always been, and will continue to be a cultural jewel for San Diego. It is a rare opportunity to see, hear, and experience the costumes, music, and traditional movement from each culture performed by the region’s most talented ethnic dancers.”
Nations is presented by Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA), a public arts conservatory for high school students that embraces and encourages artistic creativity and academic excellence. This pre-professional arts program reaches out to talented students from all over San Diego County, offering a nurturing environment focused on individual growth, opportunity, and diversity.
Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival will be held Nov. 21-23 at the Coronado High School Performing Arts Center, 650 D Avenue, Coronado, CA. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for military and seniors, and $15 for students. For more information on CoSA, call 619.522.4050, visit www.cosafoundation.org, or email lgalvan@coronado.k12.ca.us.
