Visionary Artist
Petrus Boots
-"Art needs to serve a purpose greater than itself or the artist who created it"

For me, art must express a deeper meaning. At its best, art offers us a peek through the doorway of the divine truth in us all. At its worst, art is used to sell us something we don’t want or need.
I look to the masters and leaders of the past for inspiration. At times, the work I produce seems to be of another era. As I try to make sense of the modern art of today, my only conclusion is that its relevance lies in how it reflects what masquerades as leadership in our time. More often than not, in our galleries and
halls of power, I see puppets of pretense whose arbitrary value and worth are dictated by an endless stream of embellished rationale. This needs to change, and through my art, I hope to play a small part in creating a more enlightened future for humanity.
We must raise the bar for our children. We must aspire to a higher level of consciousness. We must question those who profess to be looking after the common good and our best interests. And in the same respect, I feel art must raise questions and make us think. Are we living up to humanity’s ideals of compassion, honesty and truth?
A question I often get asked, “How can you spend years creating a work of art?” They say, “You must have great patience and fortitude.” Such comments bring to mind one whom I consider a great modern artist of our time, Polish sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski. Knowing full well he would not see its completion, he began work on the Crazy Horse sculpture in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I can only aspire to that level of purpose and dedication.
