Edgar Mitchell is a hero to me. He epitomizes the kind of person who is setting the standard for all of us who believe we have something to offer the world. The greatest people I have ever met are also the most humble and Dr. Edgar Mitchell is no exception. He is matter-of-fact about his accomplishments. I asked him, what is the one thing that we could all do to change the world? Mitchell replied, “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. To change the world we must first change ourselves.”

For millions of years the earth was in perfect balance. All the carbon dioxide breathed out by animals was completely absorbed by plants via photosynthesis, while the plants produced just enough oxygen to sustain all the animals.
Then humanity discovered “fossil fuels,” which were millions of years of plant accumulations, preserved in the form of coal, oil and natural gas. We saw this treasure as a bonanza of almost “free energy, and have burned nearly half of those millions of years of accumulation in the last 200 years, increasing our rate of consumption every year.

Prato Cleaners, the shockingly sleek dry cleaners in the Gaslamp and now East Village of San Diego, announced plans to go 100% green by the end of this year. Going the green route will take a quarter of a million dollar investment by the parent company, San Diego Valet Services, which is the largest commercial dry cleaner in San Diego and serves the region’s top resorts and hotels. The owners say setting the example is certainly worth it.

Housed inside the state park is Trestles beach, located at the end of the San Mateo watershed. The walk to Trestles Beach is half the experience—to get to the beach, the visitor will meander down a mile-long path where they encounter some of the most striking scenery in Southern California; including several native plants, wildlife, the San Mateo Creek, and sweeping views of the ocean.
