Change—A Starter Kit

Change Starter KitThis Valentine’s Day, show a little love to our planet by making changes in your lifestyle. If you’re not sure where to begin, Change—A Starter Kit will give you a boost in the right direction. The makers of the Change Starter Kit believe that just one person really can make a difference. Each item in the box comes with a page of information that describes how to use the product and what to be aware of when using it. It also describes how using the item will make a significant and immediate change in the global community. Some of the contents in the Change Kit include a sapling to plant to understand the importance of trees to our environment, an envelope to donate to needy communities around the world, gratitude ‘tokens’ to show appreciation for others and a journal to write down your new knowledge and understanding of yourself. The Change Box itself is made from recycled material and the paper products inside have all been recycled too—no need to worry about starting a more aware lifestyle on the wrong foot! Each product is a lot of fun, and is practical enough to use every day. Once you’re done using everything in the box, there’s also a list of resources to further expand your mind and practice new ways of being. At only forty dollars, this kit would make a great gift as well as a reminder of how even the smallest change can impact the world on a huge level.—AV www.starterkitforchange.com

Sol Beads

UV Sol BeadsEven though the weather outside may be chilly, the sunbeams are still out in full force. To battle against the UV rays that affect the skin, sunscreen and covering up are good protection to use—that is, if we can remember to put them on. To help remind us, science teacher Patricia Swanson has developed UV Sol Beads, a string of clear beads tied onto a sturdy suede strap that turn a variety of bright colors when exposed to UV rays. The beads will change colors over 50,000 times and are waterproof. After seeing many of her friends and family members deal with skin cancer, Swanson felt the beads would be a great teaching tool for the public, especially for kids. Swanson is passionate about UV Sol Beads and its potential in raising awareness. UV rays are always hitting us whether we can see the sun or not, so the beads are constantly turning colors. This is particularly helpful for parents of older kids. It gives parents the evidence they need to prove the sun’s rays are still working even when the sun isn’t visible. For younger kids, it’s just a lot of fun to see the beads “magically” change colors once they set foot outside. There’s a variety of colors and styles, and at less than five dollars a strand, you can buy a bunch and keep them on hand to give away to those you know. The beads can be worn as a bracelet, anklet, or hair tie, and can also be put on a bag or belt as an accessory. Your kids can give them away as friendship bracelets or as charms to put on their backpacks. But just because you are wearing Sol Beads doesn’t mean you’re protected. Don’t forget to put on some sunscreen before heading out!—AV www.uvsolbeads.com
