Visionary Artist – October 2007

The name Lucent Dossier translates loosely to “A Gathering or Collection of Light.” And the gathering of artists, performers, gymnasts and musicians that make up this unique theatre troupe is certainly that. The aim of their performances is to spread the light to others. This often comes in the form of a creative space that is highly interactive.
“In a performance there is this fourth wall that separates us from the audience. We like to ignore this wall; we dive right through it,” says Dream Rockwell, one of the creative visionaries behind Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque. The group was formed two years ago when Rockwell met Brent ‘Shrine’ Spears, the talented artist who created the interior look of the House of Blues concert houses.
“Lucent Dossier stands onstage, fully expressed, fully empowered, glowing with confidence, hearts beaming with love and excitement…,” explained Rockwell in a recent article for the Canadian press. “Then we swoop into the audience to play and connect. We bring the audience onto the stage. We consider the people who come to see our shows our new playmates. We create the show together.”
The group carries the light that is evident in their shows into other arenas as well. As an artistic organization, Lucent Dossier follows a way of working together based on the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. These Agreements are 1.) Be impeccable with your word. 2.) Don’t take anything personally. 3.) Don’t make assumptions. 4.) Always do your best. “If a performer is having difficulty getting into character, we use the word ‘yes.’ ‘Yes’ opens the doors in the mind that make all things possible,” says Rockwell. Lucent Dossier has performed with bands such as Panic! At the Disco (they were awarded the “MTV Best Video of the Year 2006” for their work on I Write Sins Not Tragedies), Rabbit in the Moon, My Chemical Romance, Motley Crue and the Flaming Lips. They recently returned from a performance tour that included stops in Guatemala, Japan and Ireland. Lucent Dossier members have also created the non-profit organization Cuddle the World, whose goal it is to bring creative play materials, such as instruments, costumes, and bubbles, to children in orphanages worldwide. They will spend the next few years traveling, performing and sharing their unique theatrical style with audiences around the globe. -NLP
