Dr. William Tiller - Science as Living Art
By Jeff Welsh, Ph.D., M.A., HHP
What if the power of our minds could reliably change our physical world? For centuries, shamans, healers and mages have believed that the power of the human Will—the focused intention of the practitioner—is a vital ingredient, necessary to bring about the success of any important endeavor. Herbalists and alchemists learn that the purity of their intention contributes to the potency of their creations. Magicians and Wiccans construct elaborate rituals with wands, cloaks, candles and incense to create a sacred space in which their concentration will not be interrupted. Modern religions still employ censers, candles and song to focus the thoughts and prayers of the faithful. Modern bodyworkers and massage therapists are continually reminded that their conscious intention directs and intensifies their Qi or energy.
Unfortunately, many modern people consider these practices to be quaint traditions or silly superstition. Thanks to the lingering effects of Cartesian dualism, most people know that there is a distinct difference between mind and body; between soft sciences such as sociology and psychology and hard sciences such as math and physics. It is still common for an engineer, with supporting mathematical data and replicable experiments, to shake her head in wonder at the questionable findings of an investigator in the spiritual or psychological realms.
Thankfully, there were some people that have attempted to bridge the gulf between the "soft" arts and "hard" science. In the 1970s, scientists such as Fritjof Capra The Tao of Physics and Gary Zukav, The Dancing Wu-Li Masters: An Overview of the New Physics explained that the methods and techniques of science had not—until recently—become powerful enough to explain the New Age phenomena. Using quantum physics, however, science was starting to predict the kinds of manifestations that ancient mystics and shamans took for granted.
But it took the genius of Professor Emeritus William A. Tiller to experimentally prove the power of human intent. Tiller spent 34 years in Stanford University's Department of Materials Science and nine years as an advisory physicist with the Westinghouse Research Laboratories. A Fellow to the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, he has published over 250 scientific papers, three books and several patents. At the same time, Tiller has researched the power of human intention as a measurable thermodynamic variable, such as heat or gravity. In this new area, he has published more than 100 scientific papers and four seminal books. Tiller speaks about his research in the movie What the Bleep Do We Know? which brought his work to the attention of the lay public.
As a result of his revolutionary work in psychoenergetic science, Tiller has scientific data that proves the effect of the human intention on physical reality. In a series of experiments, experienced meditators were able to measurably and reliably implant their intention into a device that could then change organic and inorganic matter.
The importance of these findings have had a profound effect on the scientific community, with Professor Tiller's work being compared to that of Copernicus or Galileo, who forced science to reevaluate our understanding of reality. For practitioners of ancient arts, Tiller's work provides a long-missing validation. For modern healers, the implications are life-changing. How much more effective is a nurse's injection if he/she consciously holds love and the patient's best interest in his/her mind and heart? How can surgeons, counselors, bodyworkers and therapists use this latest scientific technique to help their patients? And what does it mean to the rest of humanity that their thoughts—good and bad—can have a measurable, physical effect on others?
Dr. Tiller will be in San Diego on Saturday, June 2 at Mueller College and will give a lecture on psychoenergetic science at 6 p.m. For tickets and directions, call Mueller at 800/245-1976 or visit www.mueller.edu. Jeff Welsh, PhD. MA, HHP is the CEO of Mueller College and has more than 3 decades experience in allopathic and holistic medicine.
