The Art of Clearing Spaces
An Interview with Spirit Works' John Chandler

by Sydney L. Murray

After a six years in our office and a series of events it was time to clear the energy in our space. I asked John Chandler from Spirit Works to come over to clear the Vision Magazine offices. I walked him and his assistant Barbara around describing the rooms and past interactions.

Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised to find that his work had actually lightened the feel of the rooms as he described what he had encountered. He moved some plants around to stop the chi from flowing out a window and within a few days gave me a list of 'action items' to do which have continued to improve the feel of the space. What was most noticeable was that the next morning when I was there alone, the offices radiated a welcoming and soft energy. Knowing that our space was relatively simple compared to some spaces he had cleared I wanted to find out more about his work.

Sydney L. Murray: How do you consider your work to be an art?

John Chandler: There is my art itself which is art created from mixing past lives and spirit communication and creating art work for it. As far as clearing spaces, there is the art of knowing which tools to use and who you are communicating with and discovering who that someone is; do they have a religious feeling or is it someone you knew or a Native American? Part of the art is being able to read that and being able to help.

VM: How do you clear a space?

JC: Clearing a space is in general just moving energy≠away if possible, and creating the space to allow pure energy in. The process includes going into a house or business and quickly doing a floor plan and feeling where the energy is, and then blessing and clearing the space with the guides and the support team I have with me. We offer remedies to keep it clearer and keep the chi flowing and teach people how not to attract energy that wants to come into their space and take their energy from them.

VM: How did you come to your work?

JC: Growing up, my family moved every two years and I would feel that this house we moved into felt comfortable and another house didn't. At a young age I became aware of that. We were animal lovers and would go to various zoos, and I would communicate with the animals on their level, as well as the animals in our house. This knowledge was always there.

I spent twenty years in corporate America and about ten years ago I began to do research about these skills and take classes to hone them. You can do a lot with these skills, but you want to make sure that you are protected and those around you are protected. You have to know how to deal with these problems and be compassionate with these spirits that are lost and confused.

VM: What is the most unusual experience in your work?

JC: I think one of the more interesting clearings was with a woman who had bought a very beautiful house with a canyon view from a well-known architect; it had a lot of history to it, but when the gentleman in the house passed away he did not want to leave. He had a good life and had enjoyed the house and did not want to move on.

At the first sign of problems, she had electricians come to check things out and they were fine. Then trouble with her animals began, and then she had a snake come into her TV and it shorted [the TV] out. Bees swarmed inside her kitchen window. Her animals were very distressed. It did not take me long to discover it was an Earth bound spirit there and I began negotiating with him that it was okay to move on, that there was more to life in his reality than in the flesh. But it did take a little effort to get him to move on and move out.

VM: So how has this changed your way of living?

JC: I think it is good to be respectful of all living things and all entities. I think it is important to realize that all energy has a certain right to be there. And there are many good situations where really light and beautiful energies are there and you can ask them for guidance.

Guides are around you all of the time≠like loved ones whispering when to avoid an accident; you just want the ones around you that are here for your highest good.

VM: In your opinion how can we live a more artful life?

JC: Picasso said that as children we are all artists and the trick as an adult is to keep the artist alive in you. Being open to different things is important. Being in a circle of learning that continues. If something comes to you that does not work, put it on a shelf so to speak, and by not closing yourself down you might find in five years that this thing really resonates with you.

Clearer seeing and understanding with meditation or whatever spiritual practice you may have is important. For some people it is gardening or just walking, and in this space you can find understanding. And always find time to create and try to continue to learn new information. By doing this it keeps us open to each other. And by being open and forgiving, the energy around us can be at a higher level.
