Controversial Bookstore
A 43-year landmark has moved to a larger location: Controversial Bookstore is now located at 3063 University Ave., in San Diego's North Park. Now with enough space for readings, workshops and signings, the metaphysical community can comfortably exchange independent ideas with other independent thinkers. The store is stocked with materials on subjects such as religion, politics, psychology, music and self-realization. In 1960, the concept was to provide ready access to the full spectrum of the Information Age without bias, censorship or fear.
The store opened in October 1963, the month before the assassination of John F. Kennedy in what has been referred to as the most turbulent decade in the United States. Since then, Controversial Bookstore has remained true to its original vision and served as a wellspring of vital information for a rapidly evolving community that has experienced the break into space exploration, the beginning of the computer age, the generation gap and the polarizing effects of the Vietnam War. As readers' interests in the 1970s evolved inward, the bookstore began a transformation into the metaphysical sanctuary it remains today.
In 1987 Douglas and Claudia Kimball with partners bought the store from the original owners and have helped it serve as the bookstore for the Holistic Health Association, building San Diego's most comprehensive offerings in the fields of Wellness, Spiritual Development and Psychic Sciences. The knowledgeable staff are ready to guide you through whatever mystery you may be trying to unravel, just ask Leslie, Arlen, Tamara, Allie or David for help.
The new location will offer exciting events as well as free parking—a great commodity in North Park. The oasis for the evolution of Consciousness that is Controversial Bookstore will continue to remain as true to its original vision as it has for the last 43 years. Call the bookstore at 619/296-1560 or e-mail controbooks@gmail.com with questions. —OA
Ledgendary Actor Kirk Douglas in Illusion
Kirk Douglas never expected to still be acting at the age of 88, especially after suffering from a debilitating stroke in 1996, until he found an irresistible script called Illusion. Douglas, the star of more than 80 films including Spartacus, gives the performance of a lifetime in Illusion, a feature film that will be available during the month of May 2007 to members of The Spiritual Cinema Circle DVD club.
The award-winning Illusion tells the story of a once powerful but now lonely, aged and ailing film director, Donald Baines (Kirk Douglas), who finds himself in deep remorse after rejecting his only child, an illegitimate son named Christopher (Michael Goorjian). Late one night the legendary director is "awakened" by the ghost-like presence of his dear friend and editor, Stan (Ron Marasco) who has been dead for more than 35 years. Stan shows Baines three "mini-movies" of his son's life at times when the son is at a pivotal point.
This powerful and uplifting film is the creation of Michael Goorjian ("Party of Five") who, as writer/director/co-star of Illusion, literally bet the farm to make this film. After winning the First Place Feature and Audience Choice Awards at the 2005 Spiritual Cinema Festival-At-Sea, he admitted, "I was, as they say in Poker, all in. I spent all of my money, that of my friends and family, and maxed-out every credit card I could get my hands on to make this film."
Goorjian's compelling script combined with Douglas' star power and entrancing performance make Illusion a movie that appeals to people from all walks of life.
"The core of Spiritual Cinema is about films that ask the questions: Who are we? and Why are we here? According to veteran Hollywood producer Stephen Simon (What Dreams May Come, Somewhere In Time), a Cinema Circle co-founder, the tantalizing question that Illusion addresses is, "What if I could do this life over?"
Members of The Cinema Circle are receiving Illusion as part of the May 2007 DVD selection, which also includes three outstanding short films. For a limited time, new subscribers to The Cinema Circle can receive a free trial membership for a nominal shipping fee by visiting: www.spiritualcinemacircle.com or by calling: 800/556-0129. Illusion will be available in stores nationwide on May 29, 2007, or through GAIAM www.gaiam.com for $14.98.

Why go into a small dark studio or gym to practice yoga and stay in shape? Why not do it outside, enjoying Santa Barbara's beautiful weather and parks? Students describe Tali's outdoors yoga classes as "the perfect balance of strength, calm, balance, breathing, positions, etc." Tali utilizes her diverse background in gymnastics, dance and yoga, along with her recent studies in India, to create a class suitable for all yoga bodies, teaching students that anyone can practice yoga.
Dewdrop Yoga and Fitness is holding Moonstruck by Yoga: yoga class in the Santa Barbara foothills under the full moon with live drummers. Students are encouraged to bring layered clothing for varying temperatures, plenty of water and a yoga mat.
Tali Miller founded Dewdrop Yoga and Fitness two years ago starting with YogaHikes in Seattle. The idea of practicing yoga outdoors was generated from her travels abroad. As she backpacked around the world, she maintained her daily yoga practice wherever she was, whether in a hostel, on the beach, in the jungle, or even atop a mountain. And it seemed that everywhere she went, people were inspired to approach her and ask to join in. Upon her return to the United States, Tali began teaching a variety of outdoor yoga classes. In 2005, Tali brought the concept of outdoor yoga to Santa Barbara.
Tali has spent much of her life practicing, studying, performing, or teaching yoga, fitness, and dance. She has a 200-hour yoga certification in Ananda YogaÆ, recognized by Yoga Alliance. She also holds the AFAA Group Exercise Instructor Certification. In addition, she is the Adult Group Fitness Coordinator at the Montecito YMCA.

Indigo Children: The Bridge to the Future
The Indigo Children worldwide phenomenon has been recognized as one of the most unique and exciting changes in basic human nature ever observed and documented in our society. Carlsbad resident, Nancy Ann Tappe, renowned philosopher, teacher and ordained minister was the original conceptualist who first identified this amazing phenomenon and the psychological attributes associated with an emerging pattern of human behavior. Tappe has identified the characteristics in this new breed of children to be found in approximately 95% of all children born within the last 15 years.
"These children of the new millennium are sensitive, spiritually gifted souls with an evolved consciousness who have come here to help us change the vibrations of our lives and create one land, one globe, and one species. They are the bridge to the future," Tappe said.
Over the past 25 years Tappe has studied this metaphysical phenomenon extensively, this event is a rare opportunity to return to the original source of information. Separating fact from fantasy and offering insightful clarity over all the confusion, Nancy will speak to a deeper understanding of this evolution in consciousness.
To learn more about the most current and credible insights to these Indigo Children, join Tappe on May 24th, 6:30-9:00 p.m., at Seaside Center for Spiritual Living, 1613 Lake Dr., Encinitas. Advance tickets are $20 or $35 per couple prior to May 20th.
